Every other year we swap between going to Colorado or Washington for Christmas. This year Colorado was up, and it did not disappoint! I love participating in the Stewart family traditions and catching glimpses of Justin's childhood. On Christmas Eve we attend a Live Nativity put on by one of the local churches. There are goats, sheep, pigmy ponies, and even a camel! The kids all love petting the animals, plus there are fun dress up clothes available for them to borrow. I'm a big fan of the complimentary hot cocoa + marshmallows :) Then later that evening the grandkids act out the Nativity and we all sing songs around the piano. It's a cozy Christmas Eve and I love it :) Christmas morning we take the traditional picture of all the kids on the stairs, and then it's free game to run and see what Santa left! Something really unique that the Stewart's do is they number every single present under the tree, and then randomly draw and number out of a tin to see which present gets to be opened next. This keeps all the grandkids busy as they try to find the right numbered present. I think some of the highlights were giving Justin and Ryan tickets to the Broncos vs. Bengals game later that week, playing Salem every night, watching all the boys go Indoor Skydiving, compliments of Grandma + Grandpa, and how JD hardly got out of his new chair the entire break. OH! And Eric + Lacey + their 5 kiddos spontaneously decided to drive to CO and join the party - that was a fun surprise indeed and we loved spending time with them, playing laser tag, and watching the cousins play together!
This year we also were able to drive up to Erie and spend a few days with my sister, Sarah, and her cute family. We went ice skating at the cutest little rink and were treated to some delicious cooking a la Rowberry. It is so much fun having them live so close to the Stewart's!
