Date Night

the card had a genius idea, so we ran with it.
well, sort of...
we batted it around and found that indeed
it was the perfect idea for a date night,
and it only cost us $2.16, thanks to our Pass of All Passes
(and because we decided to rent one helmet and share it...see Exhibit A below for how that worked out - i couldn't see a thing!)
we had a blast singing, prancing, laughing, posing - and batting, of course.
i love that we can do anything together, and that simply anything can be turned into a moment where everything is perfect.
I am eternally smiling, thanks to this boy.

ColoRADo

Let's have a little throwback, eh? A little throwback Saturday, if you will... A little blast to the past, you might say...
Let's talk about that one time we drove to Colorado for the 4th of July (my favorite holiday, mind you).

We embarked on our journey Wednesday at 6:30pm, arriving on Justin's doorstep at 1:45am.
Driving along having a jolly time...and a picture of my bee sting - feel sorry for me, 3 wks later and it's still there.
We slept for 3 hours, and woke up bright & early to go for a beautiful morning ski.
Nothing says Happy 4th like this American Skier!
Then, we went to a delicious breakfast, complete with pancakes, sausage, eggs, yogurt, fruit, and friends. The breakfast was put on by the ward, and was in the cutest little park ever. If I were a kid, I would live in that park.
Chilling with Captain America & Playing on the life-sized slingshot
Haha this picture cracks me up - see the photo bomber?
That night J, Ryan, Wayne and I went to a Colorado Rapids game, and watched the most amazing firework show afterwards. The fireworks were HUGE and took up the entire sky!

The next day we were treated to a day at Elitches Gardens, AKA roller coaster heaven! This theme park was so much fun, and we loved every minute!

Saturday was Dustin's birthday, so we took the boys out for a little tube ride and then went to Lacey's that night for cupcakes, ice cream, & presents.
I loved visiting Colorado. I am so happy that Justin and I have similar interests and love to be in the outdoors. I love my in-laws, and I am so glad that we were able to visit them over the holiday. Most importantly, I am grateful that we were about to see Grandma Eddie one last time before she passed.
Gradma & Dale young and in love,  years later as temple workers, and finally together again.
Last Saturday, we were able to attend Grandma's funeral in Logan. The service was absolutely beautiful, and I loved hearing the memories people had with Grandma. I only knew Eddie for a short time, so it was a special experience to learn more about her during the service.
I love the ribbon that says "Our Little Mother"
Eddie and Dale are buried next to each other in Logan, UT. I know that Eddie is in a better place - but I also know that families are forever and that one day, we will see her again.

UN.BEAR.ABLE

The night of the 24th, a series of unbearable events occurred.
Seriously guys, it was bad news bears.
That's right, Mr. Bear paid us a visit while we were camping.
But! Before we get into the un-happy camping, let's talk about the happy camping that took place.
Tuesday after work, we met up with Rachel & JP and drove up American Fork Canyon to the Timpanooke Campground, campsite #14. We quickly set up our chairs, and enjoyed the beautiful view. Seriously, we had the most breathtaking view of the mountains and the trees.
We had a grand ole time cooking hotdogs, playing catch, exploring the creek, roasting marshmallows, and talking around the campfire.
While we were preparing for dinner, the site manager stopped by our campsite to notify us that the night before, a cougar had been seen running through our campsite. He also to us that a bear had been frequenting the area. But not to worry, he said, and reminded us that this in fact this was their home, not ours. Uhhhh, thanks Mr.!
We felt safe as we ate dinner, collected firewood, and chatted around the campfire. Before we went to bed JP made sure that we all change our clothes and that we spit in the same cup while brushing our teeth so we could put it in the car... Don't want any bears smelling our minty fresh toothpaste! And with that, we were off to bed!

I had only been asleep for about 45 minutes, when I was woken up by JP. I lifted my head, confused, only to see him mouthing the word "BEAR" and pointing outside. I turned to wake Justin, and right as I did so - SNAP - I heard a branch break right outside our tent. Justin looked up at me, his eyes asking "What was that?!" I told him JP heard a bear, and then we all heard it - a deep grunt, right outside of our tent. All of my senses were tuning in, my heartbeat quickened. I looked over to see JP laying over Rachel, clutching her for dear life. I told myself that we had to keep calm. We had to be quiet. I suggested that we all say a prayer - and we didn't stop praying. Again, the bear grunted, only feet away from our tent. I put my fingers to my lips and motioned everyone to be quiet. I told them he wouldn't attack us unless we gave him a reason. We could hear him walking around, branches snapping and grass rustling. He was to the left, in front of us, then on the right... and then, it became very quiet - we didn't know why - but we knew he was still out there. We laid there motionless.

Minutes when by, and then, something galloped down the hill, jumped right over the corner of our tent, and stopped in the field. We all tensed up, too scared to move. My entire body was shaking. Whatever was outside was walking through the tall grass around our tent - but then, it began grazing. I looked at Justin and he mouthed "Deer?" I looked over at JP, only to hear another one walking right behind us, and maybe another off to the right. JP held up two fingers, and I nodded, pointing in the directions that I heard movements.

About 20 minutes went by, and I started to feel more peaceful. But all too soon the deer/moose/elk/whateverwasoutside spooked and ran off.  I was becoming sore from being perched up on my elbows, but I was too scared to budge.

JP suggested we make a run for the car. I looked to Justin and back over the Rach & JP and whispered that we needed to have a plan. Then we heard more rustling outside of our tent. We laid there in silence for a few minutes. Finally, Justin said that if he didn't hear anything for another two minutes he was going to try to open the tent. Two minutes went by, and Justin reach his hand toward the zipper. JP held the zipper tight while Justin pulled, slowly. He probably had opened the door 3 inches when we heard noises again, and froze.

Then, we heard a something different - something jingling as it walked. Justin said it sounded like a dog - and then it shook and we could hear his ears flapping back and forth. What?! It pranced off, jingling as it went, and Justin decided it was time to leave the tent. He unzipped the door just enough to poke his head out. He didn't see anything, so he unzipped it a little more. He motioned that the coast was clear, and we all made a break for the car.

While we were in the car, we saw a camper walking from his site to the bathroom, and we drove over to him. He asked us if we had been hearing crazy noises, and said that his group had been up for the past hour+half and had heard branches bust and movement right outside of our tent. He asked us if we thought it was the mountain lion that was in the camp the night before, but we told him we were pretty positive that it was a bear. Along with some deer... and a dog? He told us that there had been news of a runaway dog in the camp, which at least explained that one.

We staked out in the car for the rest of the night... I tried to sleep, but my stomach was twisted up in an evil knot, and my heart would not calm down. Finally morning came, we got out of the car and noticed berries in the field next to us, and then we saw our evidence - an area about 7 ft. from our tent where the grass had been matted down by something BIG. The bear had laid down RIGHT outside of our tent! We also saw areas in the field where he had blazed his own trail, explaining all the branches snapping.
Seriously this picture doesn't even do it justice, but next to the rock is the matted down grass, and then the other view shows you how close the rock was to our tent site. I promise it happened - don't be skeptical of my crappy cellphone picture.
All in all, it was definitely the most exciting, terrifying, exhilerating camping trip I have ever been on. JP swore off of camping for awhile - and although I was absolutely terrified the entire night, I still love to camp... Justin cracks me up because he talks about it as if it was the funniest thing ever... And because he makes this face. Oh how I love him!
I know that we were being protected that night, and that our prayers were answered. I'm grateful for the power of prayer, for a loving Father in Heaven, and for amazing friends.
Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

SF: Day 5

Our last day in San Francisco was the day of the summit I attended Ancestry.com, so I was working for the majority of the day. But it was worth it, considering the summit was the whole reason we were able to take this trip. Thanks, Ancestry!

When I got off work, Laura took us to see the Painted Ladies
There was a cute little park right across the street, so of course we spent some time playing with cute little Landon.
Luckily the weather wasn't as bad as it was Sunday, and we had a wonderful time
Thanks for the party, SF!
We had such a blast playing, exploring, and visiting our family
Laura, Brandon, and Dani - thanks for spoiling us!

SF: Day 4

Justin and I spent all day exploring the city.
First we walked to Lombard St.
Then we walked down to Fisherman's Wharf.
We tried to squeeze on a boat over to Alcatraz - no luck :(
Goofed around.
And just enjoyed being together.
We loved spending time together in the big city!

SF: Day 3

Justin flew in to San Fran on Saturday, and we spent the rest of the time with Laura and Brandon! And boy did they feed us good! On Saturday night we ate at Japanese steak burgers at Umami Burger (delish!)

On Sunday morning the fog came rolling in... We went to church in the morning and crossed our fingers that the fog would settle - no luck. We drove up to Twin Peaks, but couldn't see more than two feet in front of us. Of course, we still had fun! Dani met us at Twin Peaks, and surprised me by bringing my cousin Jefferson!
(pictures to come - Dani has them on her camera)
Then we went to a park with a BEAUTIFUL mosaic staircase.
This staircase was amazing. I absolutely love seeing artwork in the community, and  I was in awe of the beautiful art here and all the little tiles it took to create it!

Soaking wet... but Soaking up the mosaic Sun!

SF: Day 2

My second day in California was one of the most relaxing days of my entire life. It truly was the perfect day to spend a Saturday.

As I mentioned before, we camped about 2 hours north of San Francisco. I woke up with the sun shining and the birds singing, It was glorious. Four girls from Dani's ward joined the party, too! Dani left on a 60 mile bike ride (she is legit, guys) and I went off on a hike (ok, more like nature walk) with Kelli, one of Dani's friends. Kelli is one of those people you can instantly be friends with - she is so easy to talk to and absolutely hilarious - we had a splendid morning getting to know each other as we hiked and then lounged by the pool before the girls got back from their rides. We left the campground around noon and drove to Casiltoga for lunch - then, we were off to paradise! AKA - the spa

This was my first time at a spa - and my oh my it was perfection. We dressed it light green robes that made us look 5 shades darker, and relaxed next to the Buddha Pond before it was time for our session. Then the real fun began.

We walked into the spa and a worker immediately approached me up and is all like "Please take off your robe..." and that's when I stopped hearing what she was saying. What? Wait, just like that you want me to get naked? There are people everywhere! I must have given her a blank look because she repeated "Please take off your robe and get into the shower. You must be wet before entering the mud bath." Welp. Ok! I de-robed and walked 10 painful feet to the shower, which faces two other showers, mind you - none of which have doors. It wasn't weird. I thought it would be but it wasn't. After a few minutes, another worker pokes her head into my shower and asks if I'm ready, I think "As ready as I'll ever be!" And she leads me to the mud bath. Getting in was the most awkward part, I think. But once I was in, I was in heaven! I was covered head to toe with warm mud, and I just laid there for 15 minutes (okay, maybe some dancing and trying to jiggle the mud as much as possible also happened).

Then I was off to the showers again, and then to the mineral bath! The bath water was the perfect temperature - not too hot, not too cold, just perfect. There was a wooden tray placed across the bath, with a cup of lemon and cucumber water set on top. The tray was the perfect height to sip the water out with a straw, truly perfect. Then a cool towel was placed on my forehead and I was given a wooden tool to clean the mud out of my nails. After the bath, we went to the sauna, where I discovered that I am absolutely terrified of sauna's and cannot stand being inside them. Luckily there was a little port-hole that I stuck my head out of basically the entire time!

After the sauna a lady gave us a blanket wrap, and led us into individual rooms with dim lights, cool fans, calming music, and a bed. Cucumbers were placed on my eyes and I went into the most amazing slumber of my life.

All in all, it was an amazing experience, and it felt good to treat my body to a little R&R. Thanks for the treat, Dani!
